Residents of Iroye Street, in Ilesa, were on Tuesday, thrown into mourning, when an enraged young man, identified as Wale Agbaje engaged his wife in a fight and beat her until she gave up the ghost, Nigerian Tribune authoritatively learnt.
Eye witness account indicated that the man had had a running battle with his wife over matrimonial matters, but the latest fight assumed a deadly dimension when the husband allegedly hit his wife on the forehead with a concrete block.
Credible source informed Nigerian Tribune that the woman slumped after being hit while sympathisers made fruitless efforts to revive her.
They subsequently rushed her to a nearby clinic, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
However, detectives from ‘B’ Division Headquarters, of the Osun State police command have apprehended the man and he is currently assisting them in their investigation into the matter. The security operatives were said to have saved the suspect from being mobbed.
The entire residents of Iroye Street and other neighbouring streets were subjected to palpable fear and confusion after the incident as they informed the police that they could not ascertain what led to the fight but, “we only heard them fighting.”
When contacted, a top police officer, who pleaded anonymity confirmed the incident.
