This post is so so interesting, its a pleasure sharing it with you all.
In a bizarre experiment, two men underwent labour pains on Mother’s Day this year in Michigan, United States. A Vimeo video that went viral this week shows two unidentified men, screaming in pain and thrashing around like a pair of eels, as they experience the physical agony of childbirth.
The two men, who had their grinning wives by their sides, underwent a simulation that tried to mimic the ‘real’ experience that millions of women undergo everyday. The men contacted gynecologist Dr. Julie Masters who filmed their ordeal. In order to create the artificial environment, electrodes that transmitted pain through electricity, were attached to their abdomens.
The experiment started with moderate pain, which is colloquially referred to as ‘early labour’. Also, since pain is now quantifiable, ‘early labour’ is 2-3 on the pain scale. The men, who had entered the chambers with an exaggerated air of confidence, were now squirming with discomfort. ‘Active labour’ is defined as 4 on the pain scale and now the men were screaming and thrashing around.
For years, debate has raged about the intensity of pain that women actually feel. With this experiment, at least two men have realized what it means to give birth. Both men concluded their mothers were heroes.
Women skeptics say that no simulation can match the experience of real labour which lasts for 14 hours on an average. True as it may be, such an experiment will only help men understand women better. Perhaps men can only feel empathetic about child birth if they experience the real deal.
Or whats your say .
