A small plane slammed through the outer wall and ceiling of a Herndon apartment building early Friday, coming to rest in the living room of a third-floor unit, authorities said.
The pilot, his lone passenger and one of the six people who were sleeping in the apartment at the moment of impact were injured.
Four adults and two children were asleep inside the apartment, in the Dulles Greene complex in the 2200 block of Astoria Circle, when the plane hit the building about 12:30 a.m., Virginia State Police said.
After the plane was removed Friday morning, a gaping, ragged hole could be seen in the building, framed by twisted siding, insulation and shingles. Inside the living room, insulation and cracked two-by-fours were strewn across the floor. Curtains from a busted-out window fluttered in the breeze.
