Riot At University Of Uyo As Police Allegedly Kill Three Students During Peaceful Protest[Photos]

The Engineering students of the University of Uyo this afternoon went for a peaceful demonstration to the office of the school's Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, after the VC mandated students to pay N100 for the school bus which used to be free. The school management had shifted most of the Science student courses to the school's permanent site which is about 20 minutes drive from the main campus, and then made the shuttle N100. That means students will have to pay N200 to and fro everyday to the permanent campus for most of their lectures.

On arrival at the V.C's office, security personnel tried to prevent the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor, resulting in the students throwing stones at the security officials.
The agitated security officials then called for back-up and before Jack Robinson could be fully pronounced, what was meant to be a peaceful protest resulted to pandemonium where lives and houses were brought down by the rioters.
The police who were supposed to come and calm the situation arrived at the scene, and started shooting sporadically at the students, killing three of them.
The students as a result set the office of the V.C on fire, and destroyed many school property.
