Everybody knows Jennifer Aniston had hubby Brad Pitt ripped viciously from her by conniving Angelina Jolie … or however the tabloids choose to retell the story in a given issue. But supposedly there was no cheating involved. Nope, that occurred thanks to cadaverous musician John Mayer, who allegedly cheated on Jen once twice three times — with a groupie, a promoter’s assistant, and a cocktail waitress. Ouch.
HALLE BERRY
Berry was hitched to R&B artist Eric Benet for nearly three years before they broke up in 2005. Benet fessed up and copped the “I’m-a-sex-addict” defense when infidelity rumors began to spread in the tabloids. He checked himself into an Arizona sex-rehab clinic, and later said he was in a “desperate place” and was willing to do anything to “save” his marriage to Berry. We’re not sure how boning other women fit into that plan — and neither was Berry, who gave him the boot.
REESE WITHERSPOON
Witherspoon filed for divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe in 2006 after seven years of marriage. The couple had been plagued with reports that their marriage was failing from the get-go, but it was Phillippe’s alleged affair with Australian actress Abbie Cornish that put the nail in the coffin. There was no prenuptial agreement, so Witherspoon — who was earning more than $20 million per film in ’06 — got taken to the cleaners. Oh, and just to reiterate: Reese Witherspoon was earning $20 million per film.
UMA THURMAN
In 2003 when rumors began spreading that director Quentin Tarantino and the star of his Kill Bill franchise, Uma Thurman, were getting it on, Thurman’s husband Ethan Hawke didn’t get angry. But he reportedly got even by cheating on her with a 22-year-old Canadian model named Jen Perzow. That was enough to cause the couple to end their five-year marriage in 2004. Hawke has since remarried. Thurman is still on the market.
