Drogba & Eboue face disciplinary action over Mandela tribute
Galatasaray stars Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Eboue face disciplinary action over their tribute to Nelson Mandela after the reigning Turkish champions' win over Elazigspor on Friday.
Drogba revealed a T-shirt with the text "Thank you Madiba" at the full-time whistle, while Eboue wore a jersey with the text "Rest in peace Nelson Mandela".
The duo did not seek permission to display their
personal messages with the Turkish Football Association (TFF) before the game, though, and they have now been summoned to explain their actions to the Professional Football Discipline Committee.
Drogba, though, says that he does not have any regrets over his decision to pay tribute to the former president of South Africa.
"If I had to I would do it again and again. Not because of political beliefs, but because this man inspired me, a country, a continent and the world! Thanks again Madiba," Drogba commented on his official Instagram account.
TFF has taken a firm stance against political messages in football recent months due to the rising governmental tension in the country.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray have responded to the controversy by displaying a picture of Mandela on the Turk Telekom Arena with the caption "Brotherhood of Colours: Your legacy is in our hearts".
Drogba is an all time African star and legend
